A woman was punched in the head in downtown Belleville on Friday around noon.
Belleville Police say in their weekend report, that a woman was walking in the area of Bridge Street East and Church Street, when an unknown woman came up to her.
The woman started calling her names and yelling for her to die.
The 40-year old woman of no fixed address, then approached the victim and punched her in the head. Belleville Police say the assault was totally unprovoked.
Police arrived on scene, recieved a description, and found the suspect, who was known to be a carrier of a communicable disease. She started to spit on an officer when she was arrested and charged with assault, and assault of a peace officer.
She was held for a bail hearing.
