
Volunteers are the backbone of our community, and as the weather starts to warm up, many community organizations and fundraisers need your support.
If you are retired, looking to gain some new skills or give back to the place you call home. Volunteer Information Quinte is the organization that connects you with volunteer opportunities.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*Plans are well underway for Canada Day activities in Belleville. The City is looking for volunteer face painters to help out on July 1st. Volunteers would work alongside professional artists.
*Empire Rockfest will take place on Friday, July, 25 and Saturday, July 26 in downtown Belleville. VIQ is once again looking for volunteers to help out each even from 4:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. People are needed to check ID’s, scan tickets, provide directors and stage support. Smart Serve volunteers are also required to sell drink tickets and work at the bar area. People are also needed on Thursday, July 24th before the event to help set up the green screen on the fence.
VIQ is also looking for volunteers to help out with Bingo Games and the Belleville Bingo Hall.
*Gateway Community Health Centre is seeking volunteers on the second Tuesday each month for Good Box Distribution, in Tweed. Duties include organizing and loading the boxes into customer vehicles.
*The team behind the community gardens in Quinte West is looking for people to pitch in. Duties include assisting with planting and harvesting, along with plant sales and the Doors Open Quinte event.
*Five museums in Prince Edward County are looking for volunteers to assist guests and deliver programming. The museums in need of support are the Macaulay House, Ameliasburgh Heritage Village, Wellington Heritage Museum, Mariner’s Park Museum and Rose House Museum.
*The Alternatives for Women team is looking for community members to assist with maintaining the programming and buildings. Tasks include childcare, providing transportation within PEC, sorting and packing donations for clients, maintenance around buildings, and assisting with events.
*Three Oaks is seeking volunteers to assist in their thrift store located in downtown Belleville. Volunteer duties include assisting with sorting and receiving items, creating floor displays, customer service support, cash, cleaning and tidying areas.
*Trenton Care and Share Food Bank is seeking volunteers to assist as a intake worker. You will be the first point of contact for clients at the food bank. You will be greeting clients, entering data into the client database software, and recording details of client visits. You will also be making case by case referrals to external agencies or programs if necessary. Orientation and training is provided.
*Hospice Prince Edward is seeking volunteers to provide support to individuals and their families dealing with a terminal illness, while in their own home or the three-bed hospice. Hospice Prince Edward offers a 30-hour training program to interested individuals. Residential volunteers work alongside the team of health care professionals.
*The Quinte Museum of Natural History in Trenton is looking for volunteers. The team needs people to assist with school programs, workshops, and events. Orientation and training is provided.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
