Eastern Ontario is marking the passing of a radio legend, one who went on to mentor hundreds of broadcasting students here at Loyalist College.
Bryan Olney became a household name as a morning host on CKWS radio from the late 50’s to the early 70’s.
He then took a faculty position with the Radio Broadcasting program at Loyalist College, eventually serving as Dean of the School of Media Studies until 1994.
Bryan then became Dean of the School of Communications at the University of Regina before heading to the middle east to head the Higher Colleges of Technology in the United Arab Emirates.
During his time at Loyalist, Bryan was instrumental in the founding of CJLX. The present-day 91X became just the second radio station operating at a community college in Canada.
He spent his retirement years with his wife Gail at their home on Manitoulin Island. Bryan Olney was 87.
