
Many community events we enjoy in July would not be possible without the dedication of countless volunteers.
If you are looking to fill your schedule this summer, or simply get out and meet some new people. Volunteer Information Quinte is the organization that connects you up with groups in need of volunteer support.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*Empire Rockfest will take place on Friday, July 25 and Saturday, July 26 in downtown Belleville. VIQ is once again looking for volunteers to help out each night from 4:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. People are needed to check ID’s, scan tickets, provide directions and stage support. Smart Serve volunteers are also required to sell drink tickets and work at the bar area. People are also needed on Thursday, July 24th before the event to help set up the green screen on the fence.
*The Gateway Community Health Centre is looking for people to help out in Tweed. They need folks to help out with distributing good food boxes on the second Tuesday of each month. Duties include organizing and loading the Food Box into customer vehicles.
*If you like to garden, then the Quinte West Garden Group could use your expertise. The team continues to look for help with maintaining community gardens this summer. They also need folks specifically to harvest and deliver produce to community organizations, and help with special events.
*Walk back in time at five museums across Prince Edward County. Museums in need of volunteers this year again include the Macaulay House, Ameliasburgh Heritage Village, Wellington Heritage Museum, Mariners Park Museum and the Rose House Museum. You can help out at the front desk, with programs and events.
*VIQ is currently seeking volunteers to assist with bingo games at the Belleville Lions Hall. Games are held in the afternoon and evening.
*Community Care South Hasting requires volunteer drivers to drive seniors to and from medical appointments. Trips can be across the Bay of Quinte region, Kingston, and as far as Ottawa and Toronto on occasion. They are also seeking volunteers to meals to clients.
*Prince Edward Community Care for Seniors is seeking volunteers to assist with Reception duties. The time commitment is three hours a week.
*VON Hastings, Northumberland, Prince Edward, is seeking people to visit isolated seniors in our community. Friendly visits would be held regularly at seniors home, to encourage active and independent living. Orientation and training is provided.
*St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Store in downtown Belleville is looking for people to help pick-up donations and deliver items to people in the community. Volunteers must be able to drive a cube truck and lift furniture. Morning and afternoon shifts are required, but the time commitment varies.
*Now that school is out, Scouts Canada – Bay of Quinte Group, is looking for adult volunteers. People are needed to help out programs for youth from 5 to 17 years old.
*A social media wizard is needed to help support Gift From The Heart. The team is looking for someone to maintain social media platforms and help generate traffic to the website.
*Habitat For Humanity ReStore in Belleville is looking for support. They need volunteers to help out with creating floor displays, customer service and loading and unloading donations.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
