Kingston’s Fire and Rescue Chief Monique Belair is set to retire at the end of the month.
The City made the announcement this week, as a search for a replacement will start soon.
Belair started her career as one of a few female firefighters in the Canadian Armed Forces. She served for the cities of Oakville and St. Catherine’s before being named Belleville’s first female fire chief in 2021.
Belair left the job in Belleville back in 2023, to take the same position in Kingston.
Outside of her day to day role, she founded the Camp Molly program. The summer camp offers females from aged 15-18, a chance to explore career options in the emergency service sector.
The program was adopted by both the cities of Belleville and Kingston.
