
Volunteering is a great way to expand your network of friends and skillset. Volunteer Information Quinte is the organization that connects people up with folks in need of support.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*Empire Rockfest will take place on Friday, July 25 and Saturday, July 26 in downtown Belleville. VIQ is once again looking for volunteers to help out each night from 4:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. People are needed to check ID’s, scan tickets, provide directions and stage support. Smart Serve volunteers are also required to sell drink tickets and work at the bar area. People are also needed on Thursday, July 24th before the event to help set up the green screen on the fence.
*The Stirling Musical Instrument Lending Library, known as the Stirling MILL, is in urgent need of additional volunteers. The team is looking for people to help out at their office in the Stirling Library. Shifts include Tuesdays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteers greet and support the public and update files on computer.
*Quinte West Garden group is looking for people to help plant, weed, and harvest at local community gardens and flower beds. The team could also use support with delivering produce and working special events including plant sales and Door Open.
*Community Living Belleville is on the search for people to visit clients one-on-one. Volunteers could meet with clients over a hockey game, swim time, or card table. The commitment is flexible. Volunteers are matched based on common interests.
*The O’Hara Mill Volunteer Association up in Madoc needs people to help out at events. Volunteers are required for event set up, clean up, and deliver programming dressed in period costumes. Folks with a gift for cooking and/or music are encouraged to apply.
*St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Store in Belleville is looking for a volunteer driver to drive the cube truck and lift furniture. An assistant is also required as the truck goes around to pick up and deliver donations. Morning and afternoon shifts are required, but the time commitment varies. Orientation and training provided.
*Gateway Community Health Centre is seeking volunteers on the second Tuesday of each month. People are needed up in Tweed to help distribute Good Food Boxes.
*The Quinte Museum of National History in Trenton is looking for people. They need folks to support the visitor experience, and with special events and workshops.
*Down the road, The National Air Force Museum of Canada is looking for gift shop volunteers. Duties include customer customer service, labelling new stock, answering phones and e-mails.
*Walk back in time at five museums across Prince Edward County. Museums in need of volunteers this year again include the Macaulay House, Ameliasburgh Heritage Village, Wellington Heritage Museum, Mariners Park Museum and the Rose House Museum. You can help out at the front desk, with programs and events.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
