
As we flip the calendar and start to think about September, many community groups are looking for support as we all plan ahead.
Volunteer Information Quinte is the organization that connects places in need of support, with those who have raised their hand to help.
Here is the VIQ Update this week:
*The Alternatives for Women team is seeking volunteer board members. Volunteers would take part in board and committee meetings to help guide and strength programming. They are also looking for people to help out with organizing donations and childcare.
*Food For learning needs folks to help deliver meal programs at a variety of schools throughout Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. Duties include shopping, preparing food, and serving food to kids in school. The program runs from September to June.
*Scouts Canada Bay of Quinte Group is looking for volunteers to help out in their Beaver, Cub, Venture and Troop programs. The scouts groups are open to youth ranging from 5 to 17 years old.
*Links to Learning is currently seeking volunteers to assist with their one-to-one reading program. This program runs Monday and Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.. High school looking for volunteers hours are welcome to apply.
*Community Care Prince Edward County Association can use some volunteer drivers to help clients get to medical appointments.
*St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Store in Belleville needs a volunteer to drive a cube van and pick up donations. Morning and afternoon shifts are required.
*Junior Achievement Northern and Eastern Ontario are looking for volunteers to help deliver day programs to students in local schools. Day programs include Success Skills, Personal Finance, and Work Readiness for grades 7 to 12. Junior Achievement Northern and Eastern Ontario (JA- NEO) provides all of the information and material required for each program. Volunteers would deliver these programs to students in classrooms in conjunction with teachers.
*Walk back in time at five museums across Prince Edward County. Museums in need of volunteers this year again include the Macaulay House, Ameliasburgh Heritage Village, Wellington Heritage Museum, Mariners Park Museum and the Rose House Museum. You can help out at the front desk, with programs and events.
*Habitat For Humanity ReStore is seeking volunteers to provide assistance with preparing merchandise for sale (cleaning and simple repairs), creating floor displays, customer service, housekeeping duties, loading and unloading donations, and preparing some items for scrap recycling or disposal.
*VIQ is looking for volunteers to assist with bingo games at the Belleville Lions Hall. VIQ runs games in the afternoon and evening. Orientation and training is provided by seasoned volunteers. High School students are welcome.
*Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital is currently seeking volunteers to assist with patient support. Duties include assisting and supporting patients in a variety of ways, including at meal-time to provide companionship, aid in setting up trays, opening containers etc. Friendly visiting. Orientation provided.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
