Belleville Fire and Emergency Services today imposed a total burn ban. Last week, a partial burn ban was issued, but with the continued dry weather and high temperatures, the risk of fire spreading has increased. The total ban includes all open-air burning…including campfires, outdoor fireplaces, brush fires and agricultural fires. Use of barbeques and gas fire pits are still permitted provided they are approved for use in Canada. Even here though, Belleville Fire advises extreme caution should be used to keep flames away from combustible materials.
Belleville joins other area municipalities, including Quinte West and Prince Edward Counties, that have also now imposed total burn bans. These bans will be in effect until further notice.
