Loyalist College faculty and support staff are planning to hold a rally on the first day of classes tomorrow.
The Ontario Public Service Employees Union has announced that local members will hold a rally at the main entrance of the College shortly after noon.
OPSEU President JP Hornick will be on hand to join Tracey MacKenzie, the local president of the faculty union, and a Loyalist grad and professor for over 25 years in the Justice Studies Department.
The faculty union was notified last week that 36 full-time positions would be cut.
There is also a strike looming at Loyalist College involving support staff.
Support staff at Ontario Colleges, represented by OPSEU, have voted in favour of a strike if they can not reach a new contract with the College Employer Council.
OPSEU is in a legal strike position as of September 11th.
The College Employer Council issued an update on Friday, adding that it has offered to withdraw its proposals on split shifts, increased on call hours, and limits to bumping rights and grievances. The CEC has requested that any matter unresolved head to arbitration, while the union has said they are not interested at this time.
