
The start of the school year brings new opportunities. If you are looking to give back to your community, or get ahead of your high school volunteer hours, then VIQ is the place to go.
Volunteer Information Quinte is the organization that connects people up with organizations in need of support.
Here is the VIQ update for this week.
*The Belleville Quinte West Community Health Centre is a community-based primary health organization that provides a wide range of programs and services to improve the health and well- being of people who live in the community. The Centre has a Site in Quinte West and one in Belleville. They are looking for individuals who have an idea for an activity and are interested in gifting their time to provide programs in nutrition, physical activity or social well-being.
*Central Hastings Support Network is currently seeking volunteers to drive clients to appointments. Locations can be both local or long distance including Kingston or Toronto. Drivers use their own vehicles and receive re-imbursement through a pre-determined fee.
*VON Community Care Quinte West requires volunteer drivers to take clients to appointments both locally and long distance. Volunteers will use their own vehicle to provide service to clients reimbursement provided. They are also seeking volunteers to assist with the Meals on Wheels program in Trenton area, meals are delivered Monday to Friday from 11:30 to 1:00 pm.
*The Community Development Council, known as CDC Quinte, is looking for folks to help out with their weekly Good Food Box Program. Volunteers will assist with packing and loading food hampers. Volunteers must be able to comfortably lift 50 pounds.
*Community Partners for Success is looking for retail volunteers. Duties at the thrift shop including sorting and organizing donations. The time commitment is Monday to Wednesday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
*Junior Achievement Northern and Eastern Ontario is looking for volunteers to help deliver day programs to students in local schools. Day programs include Success Skills, Personal Finance, and Work Readiness for grades 7 to 12. Junior Achievement Northern and Eastern Ontario provides all of the information and material required for each program. Volunteers would deliver these programs to students in classrooms in conjunction with teachers.
*Links to Learning is currently seeking volunteers to assist with their one-to-one reading program. This program runs on Monday and Tuesday from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. High school looking for volunteers are welcome.
*Food For learning is seeking volunteers at various schools throughout HPE. Duties include shopping for items, preparing and serving food to students, and general clean up. Time commitment varies with each school, this program runs from September to June. Volunteer once a week or month. Training and orientation provided.
*Scouts Canada Bay of Quinte Group are seeking adult volunteers to assist with the Beaver, Cub, Venture and Troop Scout groups. Volunteers assist with running hands on programs for youth ranging from 5 to 17 years. Orientation and training are provided.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
