The second week of classes at Loyalist College, could be interrupted by a strike later this week.
Over 23,000 support staff working across Ontario Colleges, who are represented by OPSEU, have yet to reach a new contract with the College Employer Council. Both sides continue to talk.
OPSEU is in a legal strike position as of Thursday, September 11. Members voted 77% in favour of a strike mandate last month.
The College Employer Council says that the union’s proposals would add $900 million dollars in costs.
The union is calling on an extra six additional paid days off for college support staff and 10 paid family-care days.
The union has pushed back claiming that the Ontario colleges are inflating costs. Noting that programs and services at Ontario colleges have seen substantial costs in the last two years.
