The union representing faculty and support staff at Colleges and Universities across Ontario has released a report, highlighting the lack of funding in education by the Ford Government.
The Ontario Public Service Employees Union says that this summer, 650 College programs and 10,000 college staff cuts were made, as institutions site a lack of stable funding.
OPSEU says the cuts to Loyalist College’s Culinary programs and St Lawrence’s Food Service and Hospitality program, do not make sense considering that the two areas represent the second largest source of income in the region. OPSEU says that 30 per cent of Prince Edward County employers in the sector, note a lack of skilled applicants.
The union report comes as 23,000 Ontario college support Staff are in a legal strike position as of tomorrow.
OPSEU and the College Employer Council have yet to reach a new agreement over wages and more supports.
