
Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and stay up to date with what is happening with events and fundraisers.
The team that connect volunteers with local organizations is Volunteer Information Quinte.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*The Belleville Quinte West Community Health Centre is a community-based primary health organization that provides a wide range of programs and services to improve the health and well- being of people who live in the community. The Centre has a site in Quinte West and Belleville. They are currently seeking individuals who have an idea for an activity and are interested in gifting their time to provide programs focusing on access to food, physical activity or social well-being.
*Community Care South Hasting is looking for volunteer drivers. They need people to take seniors to and from medical appointments. Trips can be to Belleville, Trenton, Picton and Kingston. Occasionally to Ottawa or Toronto. Community Care South Hastings is also looking for volunteers to be delivery drivers for the Meals on Wheels program.
*Community Living Prince Edward is looking for people who would like to spend time with seniors. The friendly visits can be over a card game, or through shared hobbies such as art, music, and cooking.
*The Children’s Safety Village in Belleville is seeking birthday party volunteers. Volunteers assist with set-up and clean-up, welcome guests, lead simple games or activities, and support staff in ensuring everything runs smoothly. This role is perfect for those who enjoy working with kids, bringing energy to special events, and making celebrations extra special. Events take place on Saturday for about an hour and a half.
*Trenton Care and Share Food Bank is looking for people to help out at the reception desk. Duties include answering calls, checking voicemails and responding to emails/messages. Other opportunities include assisting in building meal kits, breaking down cardboard for recycling, and stocking shelves.
*The Community Development Council of Quinte, known as CDC Quinte, is seeking volunteers to assist with their weekly Good Food Box Program. Volunteers will assist with unloading and packing food hampers. You must be able to lift 50lbs.
*Prince Edward Community Care needs volunteers to help at the thrift store in downtown Picton. Shifts are 3 hours per week. The time commitment is from 10am – 1pm or 1pm – 4pm. No experience is necessary and full orientation and training is offered. Community Care is particularly in need of volunteers to take a shift on Saturdays.
*The Prince Edward County Hospital Auxiliary team is in need of support with assisting patients and staff at Picton hospital. Duties include assisting at meal times and providing companionship. Orientation and training is provided.
*Community Care Prince Edward County Association is looking for volunteer drivers to help clients get out to medical appointments. In most instances, the driver will remain with the client to ensure their safe arrival home. Clients are independently mobile. Orientation and ongoing support is provided.
*Habitat For Humanity ReStore in Belleville is looking for a helping hand. They need people to help sort through donations, stock shelves and create floor displays.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
