
October is a great time of year in our community, with all sorts of events and programs!
If you are a high school student, eager to get your volunteer hours done.. or someone with a bit of extra time.. then Volunteer Information Quinte could use you!
VIQ is the agency that connects volunteers with organizations in need.
Here is the VIQ update on 91X:
*The Homestead Marketplace in Trenton is once again the site for a Haunted Halloween Maze. VIQ is rallying all the volunteers to help set up, decorate and monitor the maze. Volunteers for setup are needed currently. Volunteers are also needed to greet guests when the maze runs every Friday and Saturday up to Halloween. The Haunted Halloween Maze will be open for little goblins and ghouls Friday, October 10th, Saturday, October 11th. Friday, October 17th, Saturday October 18th and Friday, October 24th, Saturday October 25th.
*Up in Madoc, the O’Hara Mill Volunteer Association needs volunteers for upcoming events. People can dress up in period costumes and deliver programming, or help out with set up and cleanup after events. Volunteers with talents in cooking, music and crafts are also welcome.
*The Community Development Council of Quinte, known as CDC Quinte, is looking for volunteer drivers to support the Good Food Box program. This position includes some heavy lifting, driving a cube van once a month, on the second and fourth Tuesday.
*VON Community Care Quinte West is seeking volunteer drivers to assist clients to medical appointments, shopping and other errands. Drivers use their own vehicles and are reimbursed monthly for kilometers driven. Trips are local and long distance.
*The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association is seeking volunteers for their Active Living Program. Volunteers must be available for a few hours a month to become involved with programming .
*Community Care South Hastings is looking for volunteer drivers. Volunteers provide door to door transportation to individuals both local and long distance . They are also seeking volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels to seniors Monday through Friday 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
*Volunteers are essential at local hospitals. The auxiliary teams at Belleville, Trenton, and Picton Hospitals are in need of support. There are volunteer positions for all ages, skill levels, and comfort levels. There are volunteer opportunities at the ERs, gift shops, coffee bars and a variety of departments including Mammography and Day Surgery.
*If you’re a home cook who’d like to put your skills to work… Catherine’s Kitchen needs helpers for its community lunch program. Volunteers assist in food preparation, serving, and clean-up. Shifts are from 8:45 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday. Catherine’s Kitchen is located at 24 Dundas Street West in Trenton.
*The Regent Theatre located in Picton is looking for people to help out with some odd jobs. It can be anything from being an usher to helping out with ticket sales. High school students are welcome to apply!
*The Museums of Prince Edward County have some unique volunteer opportunities at five of its locations in the county: Front-desk receptions and hosts are needed at some of the museums. Several volunteers will get a chance to dress in period costume and deliver programming. The museums in need of volunteers are: Macaulay House, the Ameliasburgh Heritage Village, Wellington Heritage Museum, Mariners Park Museum, and the Rose House Museum.
*A number of agencies are looking for volunteers to support bingo games in the afternoon and evenings. Volunteers call back Bingo numbers, assist with payouts and clean after events.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
