Loyalist College students are starting the reading break today, with a prospect of another support-staff strike on the horizon.
On Friday, part-time support staff across Ontario’s 24 College’s, voted 64% in favour of a strike if a new contract could not be reached.
Part-time support staff, represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union, have been without a new contract with the College Employer Council, for close to two years.
Similar to the full-time support staff, that ended their strike last week, part-time support staff are calling for a wage increase and paid-sick days.
Part-time support staff are also asking for a 24-hour shift cancellation protections.
No strike deadline has been set. OPSEU and the College Employer Council are set to head to mediation on November 20th.
