Belleville Police have issued a statement this morning, about a scam that is targeting local contractors.
Police add that e-mails are being sent to contactors. The scammer poses as a customer, claiming that they need work done while they are in the hospital.
The scammer then asks the contractor to meet with a moving company, in order to access the property where the work will take place.
The plot then thickens, when the scammer offers to use a credit card to pay, asking the contractor to charge a bit extra and transfer the funds to a moving company who does not accept credit cards. However, once that is done, the contractor is left to deal with the full fraud payment.
Belleville Police are once again asking people to never share their credit card information or proceed with a payment with someone you don’t know. Police add that extra caution is the best way forward when someone asked for funds to be forwarded.
