
As students wrap up exams and final assignments, many of us are in the spirit of giving.
The Holiday season is a great opportunity to give back to some of your favourite organizations and non-profits.
Volunteer Information Quinte is the organization that can connect you up with those in need of a helping hand.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*The Salvation Army is seeking volunteers to assist with the annual Kettle Campaign. Shifts are two hours. Kettles are located inside various businesses throughout Belleville and Prince Edward County.
*Catherine’s Kitchen is seeking volunteers to monitor donation station boxes. They are set up across a variety of locations in Quinte West. Shifts are two hours. Those under the age of 18 are encouraged to volunteer in pairs. Families are welcome.
*The Community Development Council of Quinte, known as CDC Quinte, is looking for volunteers. They need folks to help distribute Good Food Boxes at their new depot location at Sophiasburgh Centre School in Prince Edward County. The depot started at the end of November. Volunteers distribute the boxes to community members on certain days. You must be able to lift 10 to 15 pounds comfortably.
*Gateway Community Health Centre is seeking volunteers to assist in organizing and loading the Good Food Box into client’s cars the second Tuesday of each month. Volunteers must be able to lift 30 pounds. Training is provided by staff.
*Hospice Prince Edward is seeking volunteers for emotional and practical support for those dealing with a life-threatening illness. Volunteers provide relief to the caregiver and serve adults within Prince Edward County. In-depth training is provided.
*Canadian Blood Services is looking for volunteers to support those who roll up their sleeves. Volunteers are needed to support donors before and after they give blood. Orientation and training provided.
*Pensioners Concerned is an organization that is looking for folks who love numbers. The team needs volunteers to help prepare income tax returns for low-income individuals, seniors and those with disabilities. Volunteers must have excellent computer skills and understand the tax system. The time commitment is from February to April 30th. Pensioners Concerned is also looking for volunteers to handle calls and e-mails. Half-day shifts run also from February to April 30th. Training is provided.
*Community Living Prince Edward County is seeking individuals who would like to volunteer their time to socialize with clients. Friendly chats can be made over a shared activity, card game, baking session or craft. Orientation and training is provided by staff.
*The Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre in Belleville is looking for volunteers to help out in the gym. Duties include supervising games including floor hockey, badminton, and volleyball. Training is provided by staff.
*The Strong Start Reading Program is looking for folks to assist with their “Letter, Sounds and Words program.” The program is offered in all schools within the Hastings, Prince Edward District School Board. This is a 10-week program for 5- to 9-year-old children. Volunteers use short, fun games and activities to help children build foundational literacy skills and confidence. The Time commitment is a minimum of 30 minutes to 1 hour per week, in 10-week intervals. Volunteer coaches work with one child at a time and follow the materials provided.
*Abbeyfield House Society of Prince Edward County is looking for a volunteer treasurer on their Board of Directors. The treasurer will develop, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies Board meetings are held online on the third Thursday of the month from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
