
It’s another day with a high number of new COVID-19 cases in Quinte.
Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is reporting 19 new cases today, for a total of 148 active cases.
Here’s the breakdown of cases in each region:
- 57 active cases in Quinte West
- 52 active cases in Belleville
- 17 active cases in Central Hastings
- 1 active case in North Hastings
- 12 active cases in Prince Edward County
- 6 active cases in Tyendinaga & Deseronto
Staff say that four people are in hospital with one person in ICU. A total of 67 variants of concern have been identified.
The seven day case rate per 100,000 people is 79.5.
A new outbreak has been declared today at the Richmond Retirement home in Belleville, with one case identified so far.
That brings the total number of outbreaks to four.
Status of other outbreaks:
- Workplace in Trenton – 3 cases linked
- Workplace in Belleville – 7 cases linked
- Childcare facility in Belleville – 10 cases linked
- Outbreak that has been in Quinte West – 1 case linked
A total of 35,202 vaccines have been administered, with 2,234 people fully vaccinated.
Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington Public Health is reporting 21 new cases, for a total of 76 active cases.
Dr. Kieran Moore, Medical Officer of Health announced today that several patrons who were at The Brass Pub in Kingston have tested positive for COVID-19.
“KFL&A Public Health recommends that individuals who attended The Brass Pub on Friday, April 2, between 4 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19. Individuals who develop symptoms should isolate immediately and get tested at one of our local assessment centres. KFL&A Public Health also recommends that individuals affected by this exposure get tested on or after seven days from the exposure date. If you attended the pub on April 2, 2021 please go for testing on or after April 9, 2021,” said Public Health.
The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit is reporting 41 new cases of COVID-19 today in Northumberland County. There are now a total of 63 active cases in the county, the highest in the health unit’s jurisdiction.
Cobourg Collegiate Institute moved to remote learning only as of today, after six cases of the virus have been linked to the school.
The health unit is also reporting cases at the following:
- Grafton Public School
- Ganaraska Trail Public School
- C.R. Gummow Public School
- North Hope Central Public School
The province reported another 3,065 new cases of the virus today.
Premier Ford announced today that the province will move to Phase Two of the vaccine rollout plan, which will target hot spot communities.
Here’s a section of the province’s statement:
“The province is supporting regions to vaccinate individuals aged 50 and over by postal code in these COVID-19 hot spot zones.
In addition, starting as early as April 6, 2021, individuals with the following highest-risk health conditions will be eligible for COVID-19 vaccination in Ontario:
- Organ transplant recipients;
- Hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients;
- People with neurological diseases in which respiratory function may be compromised (e.g., motor neuron disease, myasthenia gravis, multiple sclerosis);
- Haematological malignancy diagnosed less than one year ago;
- Kidney disease eGFR< 30; and
- Essential caregivers for individuals in the groups listed above.”
