HPEPH reporting eight new COVID-19 cases as a community outbreak is declared in Hastings Highlands

Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is reporting eight new COVID-19 cases today, and five more recoveries.

There are now a total of 83 active COVID-19 cases between the two counties.

Three of the new cases today are listed as close contacts, one is travel and the remaining four are still pending.

Hospital staff are treating 17 people, with seven in ICU and five on a ventilator.

The outbreak declared on April 28th at a workplace in Belleville has been declared over. In that situation, three cases of the virus were linked.

We now have a total of six active outbreaks:

• Quinte Health Care – Belleville General Hospital’s Quinte 5 Unit – Declared April 27 – 26 cases linked to date.
• Quinte Health Care – Belleville General Hospital’s ICU – Declared May 4 – 3 cases linked.
• Child care facility in Belleville – Declared May 7 – 5 cases linked.
• Workplace in Belleville – Declared May 9 – 2 cases linked.
• Workplace in Central Hastings – Declared May 10 – 3 cases linked.
• Community Outbreak in Hastings Highlands – status of what type of site is not listed – Subregion in North Hastings – Declared May 11 – 7 cases linked.

A total of 68,691 vaccine doses have been administered to date.

Hastings Prince Edward Public Health officially declared a COVID-19 community outbreak in Hastings Highlands today.

The health unit has announced that COVID-19 testing will be available tomorrow from 10 am to 2 pm at Logger’s Field (6 Anaf Rd).

Residents in Hastings Highlands are encouraged to get tested if they believe they made have been in contact with someone who has tested positive, or even if they have mild COVID-19 symptoms like a runny nose or soar throat.

Health officials also announced that last week some customers at Tim Horton’s in Picton may have had low-risk exposure to COVID-19.

Outside of our region,

Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington Public Health is reporting nine new cases of the virus today, for a total of 124 active COVID-19 cases.

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit has added two new cases of the virus to their list for Northumberland County. There are now a total of 31 active cases in Northumberland.
