There is some very sad news coming out of the world of gospel music today.
Mavis Staples has announced that her brother Pervis has died at the age of 85.
He co-founded The Staples Singers, along with Mavis, sister Cleotha, and their father, who was known all over the music industry as Pops.
“Pervis was one of a kind — comical and downright fly. He would want to be remembered as an upright man, always willing to help and encourage others. He was one of the good guys and will live on as a true Chicago legend,” said Mavis in a statement.
The Staples Sisters started in the early 1950s.
Pervis later left the group to manage a few Chicago bands and eventually open a nightclub.
He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, along with his family in 1985. Pervis received a Grammy with his family later on in 2005.
