Nestle Canada has announced today that they will be closing their factory in Trenton.
The food services factory makes a number of dry and frozen products that ship to the United States.
“The foodservice industry is highly competitive and over the years volumes in the U.S. have continually outpaced Canadian volumes, resulting in over 80 percent of Trenton’s annual production being shipped to the U.S. The Trenton factory is part of a North American manufacturing network and the U.S. foodservice factories have capacity to absorb the production,” added staff.
The Trenton plant will start to close in stages at the end of the year. The company notes that the Trenton factory will be completely closed by the middle of next year.
“This decision in no way reflects the performance of our dedicated team members who work tirelessly to provide the highest quality products to our customers,” added the company.
Employees at the plant can expect to learn more about support and severance packages later this year.
The Trenton location has been up and running since the early 1970s, and Nestle expanded the operation in 2010 and 2011.
