Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced this afternoon that new COVID-19 measures will go into effect at midnight Sunday.
The measures are designed to curb the spread of the Omicron variant.
The new rules stops short of a lockdown. They come a day after Ontario’s Science Table urged the government to impose greater restrictions.
The measures come a week before Christmas… and will limit to 10 the number of people allowed at any indoor gathering. Outdoor gatherings may include up to 20 people.
The premier also announced that most indoor venues must reduce their capacity to 50 per cent.
That includes restaurants, bars, malls, grocery stores and pharmacies.
Ontario officials continue to urge residents to get vaccinated as soon as possible. Beginning Monday, Ontarians aged 18 and older can book a booster dose.
