The Quinte region is under a winter storm warming, as we brace for up to 40 cm of snow.
Environment Canada says that light snow will start this morning. High of minus 6 degrees celsius, with the windchill at minus 10 degrees celsius this afternoon.
Tonight is when it could get very dicey. We could see up to 10 cm of snow fall overnight with a low of minus six degrees celsius. The warming centres in Belleville and Trenton will be open tonight at 8 p.m. They are at Bridge Street United Church in Belleville and Trenton United Church.
The storm will continue through Monday with up to another 20 to 30 cm. High of minus six degrees celsius. Monday is scheduled to be the first day of in-person classes for local elementary and high school students. Families started the first two weeks after the Christmas break learning remotely.
Tri-Board Transportation has announced that on Monday between 4 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., they will consult with their teams to see if it is safe for buses.
Belleville Transit is reminding riders that there could be some delays on Monday if streets are still not blowed. Staff are encouraging riders to download the Transit App for updates about routes.
