Today is Giveaway Day in Belleville!
The city-wide event runs from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
It’s a great way to make some space in your home, while helping out others in need of some items.
Residents who have items to giveaway, are asked to place them outside on the curb by 8 a.m. Make sure you indicate the items are free with a sign. You can use the hashtag, #GiveawayDayBelleville to promote what you have online.
They all must be in good working condition. Popular items include furniture, books, and renovation materials.
The City of Belleville is asking people to not put out anything that may pose a safety hazard or has been recalled. That includes playpens, toys, car seats and mattresses.
“The Giveaway Days have proven popular with city residents, now having completed two through an initiative via the City’s Green Task Force. We believe a summer of downsizing, folks on the move and cleaning out unused items from our homes presents another opportunity to spare plenty of household items from the landfill. As we saw with our successful spring cleaning Giveaway Day, we hope the end-of-summer day will again give an opportunity to share with our neighbours things we may not need, but others might find useful,” said Chair of the Green Task Force Councillor Chris Malette, in a statement.
