91X has teamed up with Volunteer Information Quinte to share all the volunteer opportunities in Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
Listen to the VIQ Update on 91X, every Thursday at 9:40 am and Saturday at 7:40 am.
Here is how you can help this week:
- Quinte Immigration Services is looking for volunteers with its Ukraine Assistance Group. They need people who speak fluent Ukrainian, Polish, and/or Russian to translate and assist newcomers to our region.
- Quinte Conversation needs help to organize and operate its 75th anniversary Artisan Market Fundraiser. The event is on Saturday, October 1st from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Vanderwater Conservation Area. Volunteers will assist with the silent auction, setting up and cleaning up, traffic, and crowd control at this outdoor event.
- The Children’s Foundation needs volunteers to help at its annual Kids Can’t Wait Radiothon. The event is Wednesday, October 5th. Volunteers will answer incoming calls, collect donations, and interact with donors.
- Prince Edward Community Care needs help at its Thrift Shop on Main Street in Picton. Training and orientation will be provided on-site. Pandemic safety protocols are in place. Positions include working at the cash desk and sorting and pricing items. Shifts are typically three hours per week, either mornings or afternoons.
- If you’re computer literate and have an interest in musical instruments, the Stirling Musical Instrument Lending Library could use your help. The Stirling M.I.L.L is a not-for-profit program that lends musical instruments for free to people in the Quinte region. Volunteers are needed at the Stirling MILL home base at the Stirling-Rawdon Public Library on Tuesdays from 3 to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The lending program also needs skilled individuals to work with the curator on maintenance and repair of the musical instruments. Drivers are also needed to transport instruments to and from the Belleville Library to the Stirling-Rawdon Library.
- The Gleaner’s Food Bank is gearing up for its fall programs and has a variety of volunteer positions. The food bank food drive is Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. They need about 20 to 30 people that weekend to receive and sort items at the food bank. Volunteers are also needed at various grocery stores in the Belleville area to collect food donations on October 15 and October 16.
- The Quinte Therapeutic Riding Association is seeking people to join its Board of Directors. Quintra is a registered charitable organization based in Stirling. It offers horseback riding instruction for people with disabilities. Board meetings are generally held six times per year. Members of the Board of Directors offer guidance to the agency.
- The Victorian Order of Nurses needs volunteers to offer home visits to isolated individuals. The goal is to support social interaction and encourage active and independent living. Orientation and training will be provided.
- Community Care South Hastings is seeking volunteer drivers to provide individuals with door-to-door transportation to appointments and to pick up necessities. You’ll be reimbursed for your mileage. Volunteers are also needed to deliver Meals On Wheels to seniors Mondays through Fridays between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. If you have a vehicle, you can volunteer once weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.
