91X has teamed up with Volunteer Information Quinte to share all the volunteer opportunities in Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
Listen to the VIQ Update on 91X, every Thursday at 9:40 am and Saturday at 7:40 am.
Here is how you can help this week:
- The National Air Force Museum of Canada needs help with its books. If you have accounting experience, the museum in Trenton needs a treasurer to help with book-keeping and monthly accounts. The individual would also attend the museum’s monthly Board meetings to provide a financial report. Previous accounting skills are required. Knowledge of QuickBooks software is an asset.
- The Victim Services organization that serves three counties in our region needs volunteers to provide on-scene assistance and referrals to people affected by crime. Volunteers need to complete online training modules that take about 40 hours. That will be followed by a one-day, in-person training session. The agency helps people in Hastings, Prince Edward and Lennox and Addington Counties.
- If you have culinary skills you’d like to share, the Quinte West Youth Centre needs a volunteer chef to take over its “What’s Cooking” program. The program provides youth who visit the Centre with a nutritious meal. The chef will also mentor one or two young people on how to cook the meal. The chef will need to be at the Centre from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- If you’re fluent in Ukrainian, Polish, or Russian … Quinte Immigration Services could use your help. They need translators and interpreters to help people who are new to the Quinte region.
- The Community Living organization in Belleville is looking for volunteers to join its Board of Directors. If you have experience in education, building or construction, finance, the law, real estate, or risk management, you’d be an ideal candidate. Orientation will be provided.
- The Highland Shores Children’s Aid Society needs volunteer drivers who live in the Marmora to Tweed corridor …. Or the Picton or Bloomfield area. You would provide transportation to children and adults served by the agency. Drivers are needed Monday to Friday with occasional weekend requests. Volunteers are reimbursed for their mileage.
- The Salvation Army Kettle Campaign needs help to launch its annual holiday donation drive. It runs from November 21st to the twenty-third of December. Volunteers set up the Salvation Army kettle at various locations and collect donations. High school students are welcome. Shifts are generally two hours and training is provided.
- The Prince Edward Community Care for Seniors Association needs outgoing receptionists at its location on Main Street in Picton. Orientation is provided … and shifts are three hours per week. A receptionist is also needed at the agency’s Foot Care Clinic.
- The Victorian Order of Nurses is seeking volunteer drivers for its Meals on Wheels. Meals are delivered Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between 11 a.m. and noon.
- If you’d like to help empower young girls, Reaching For Rainbows in Picton is looking for volunteers. It’s a registered charity that offers no-cost programs for girls in Prince Edward County.
