March seems to be flying by! If you are new to the area or have some time, several community groups could use your help as we all look forward to warmer weather and more events.
Here is the Volunteer Information Quinte Update on 91X:
- The Indigenous Interprofessional Primary Care team is looking for people to join their Board. The team is looking for people with a diverse set of skills and experiences. Previous board experience is helpful, but not required. The board meets ten times a year. The commitment would be for two years.
- Belleville General Hospital and Trenton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary are looking for volunteers to help out. People are need at the information desks, Emergency departments, Mammography clinics, Day Surgery units and Recreation Therapy clinics. Orientation and training is provided.
- You can spread the joy of reading by volunteering with Links to Learning. It needs folks to assist with its one-to-one reading program. It runs Mondays and Tuesdays from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. This would be a great opportunity for high school students.
- If you’re a home cook who’d like to put your skills to work… Catherine’s Kitchen needs helpers for its community lunch program. Volunteers assist in food preparation, serving, and clean-up. Shifts are from 8:45 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday. Catherine’s Kitchen is located at 24 Dundas Street West in Trenton.
- The Stirling Musical Instrument Lending Library is looking for a secretary for the board of directors. The secretary would be required to attend and document board meetings, and maintain the books.
- Central Hastings Support Network is looking for drivers to help transport clients to appointments locally and as far as Kingston and Toronto. Drivers must use their own vehicles and are re-imbursed a predetermined free.
- The Habitat For Humanity Re-Store is looking for help at its shop on Bell Boulevard in Belleville. Folks are needed to prepare donated merchandise, create floor displays, customer service, and the load and unload donations.
- Quinte Immigration Services is looking for volunteers with its Ukraine Assistance Group. They need people who speak fluent Ukrainian, Polish, and/or Russian to translate and assist newcomers to our region.
- The Grace Inn Shelter in downtown Belleville is looking for volunteers to help with the kitchen. Volunteers are needed to prepare food, clean, and cook. Training is provided by staff.
- VON Hastings, Northumberland, Prince Edward requires volunteers to help delivering hot meals to clients in the Trenton and Frankford area. The time commitment can vary. The average delivery time is about an hour and a half to two and a half hours per day. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday.
- Prince Edward Community Care for Seniors is actively recruiting volunteers for their driving program. Volunteer drivers provide door-to-door transportation service to medical appointments and essential shopping. In most instances, the driver will remain with the client to ensure their safe arrival home.
- The Community Development Council of Quinte is looking for someone to coordinate the Good food Box program in Frankford. They require someone to take orders and cash payments, and coordinate everything on pick up days at the Frankford United Church. The position is roughly about an hour each week and three hours on pick up days, which is the fourth Tuesday of the month.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
