The Trenton Golden Hawks and Wellington Dukes kicked off their South East Conference Final last night in Wellington.
Over 1,000 people were in attendance to watch the two local OJHL teams face off against each other in the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
After two scoreless periods, Trenton forward Duncan Grube scored his second goal of the playoffs. The lead did not last long as roughly 10 seconds later Lucas LaPalm scored a goal for the Dukes. Adam O’Marra broke the tie for Trenton and the team finished off with an empty net goal. Trenton drove away with a 3-1 victory to give them a lead in the best of seven series. Shots were even at 32 a piece.
Game 2 will be held in Trenton on Saturday night. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m. over at the Duncan McDonald Memorial Arena. Game 3 will swing back to Wellington on Monday.
The winner of the series will take face Burlington or Collingwood in the league final.
