Artist: Grandson
Single: Half My Heart
From: New Jersey/Toronto
Jordon Benjamin continues to travel the world with his music. He was born in New Jersey, but grew up in Toronto. He was a DJ around Montreal, before moving to Concordia University two years later to focus on a communications degree. He left in 2014 and moved to Los Angeles to pursue music. This is his first new single, since his 2021 song “Drop Dead” featuring Kesha and Travis Barker. He released his critically acclaimed debut album, “Death of an Optimist” in 2020.
This single is from his new album, “I Love You, I’m Trying.” He co-wrote this track with Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park.
“Half My Heart captures the feeling of when you get in the way of your own happiness. I was going through a lot of personal shit with my mental health and wondering how much of it is about growing up and out of it, and how much is about accepting and learning to live with your faults, and how to still show up for your partner when you can barely show up for yourself. Sonically I worked with my old friend Mike Shinoda and had my girlfriend Wafia sing background vocals with him. The song draws on my love for modern alt like Dominic Fike, Kacey Musgraves, Joji, Deb Never, Mac Miller,” said Grandson, in a statement.
