The City of Belleville has announced several new community safety zones.
The areas are usually in school areas and other places where people tend to gather. They come with a reduced speed limit and steeper fines for drivers.
Here is the list of new community safety zones that have been approved.
- Victoria Avenue from Humewood Drive to Park Lane
- Palmer Road from Bridge Street West to Dundas Street West
- Harder Drive from Avondale Road to Palmer Road
- Sidney Street from Moira Street West to Bridge Street West
- Cannifton Road from College Street East to Bell Boulevard/Adam Street
- Sidney Street from Tracey Street to College Street West
- Harmony Road from Highway 37 to 449 Harmony Rd.
- Dundas Street East from George Street to First Street
- Ashley Street from Ducette Road to Old Madoc Road
- College Street East from North Front Street to Cannifton Road
“Our goal with the Community Safety Zones is to reduce the risk for drivers, pedestrians and those living in these areas. We hope all drivers will watch for and respect these new zones going forward. This will set the City in a good position to implement Automated Speed Enforcement in the future,” said Garnet Thompson, Chair of the Transportation Committee and City Councillor.
