As we embrace a new month, and try to make the most out of the summer weather, many community organizations are looking for your assistance as we continue to get out and discover new things.
If you are new to the area, have some extra time, or are looking to meet new people…Volunteer Information Quinte has a place for you!
Here is the VIQ Update for this week.
- The second Ribfest in the Quinte region is just two weeks away. Big Brothers Big Sisters Hastings Prince Edward is getting ready the Belleville event August 18-20. The team is looking for people to help out with serving beverages. You need your Smart Serve certificate to work behind the bar. Big Brothers Big Sisters also needs people to help with the tables.
- Hospital Foundations across Hastings and Prince Edward Counties are looking for some friendly and upbeat folks to make an impact at local McDonald’s Restaurants. The Annual McDonald’s Day will be on Wednesday, August 16th. Customers can select specific menu items, with Proceeds supporting the hospital foundations. Volunteers are needed at the restaurants to collect cash donations and meet with everyone. Shifts are 2 hours and training and support will be provided.
- The Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation is looking for people to help out on Friday, August 11th, for the annual John Smylie Golf Classic Duties include setup, hole in one spotting, and assisting with day activities. The event is at the Oak Hills Golf Club.
- The Prince Edward County Hospital Auxiliary is looking for volunteers to support patients at Picton Hospital. Duties include providing some company during meal time, helping with setting up trays and containers. Orientation and training provided.
- Parkinson Canada is looking for some help with their Pedaling for Parkinson’s Event in Prince Edward County. People are needed on August 18th and 19th to help set up the event ahead of time, participate with registration on event day, along with at the rest stops, and tear down at the end.
- The Children’s Foundation is getting ready for their Kids Can’t Wait Radioathon on October 4th. The team is looking for help with answering phones and collecting donations. Training will be provided before the big day.
- The Food program at Bridge Street United Church in Belleville, is looking for a helping hand. The team needs people to help greet everyone at the door, monitoring guests during the lunch program and handing out bagged lunches. Volunteer work in pairs. Training is provided.
- Trenton Care and Share Foodbank is looking for people to help with sorting food donations, stocking shelves and packing food hampers. You should be able to comfortably lift 30 pounds for this role, and be okay with working in a fast paced environment.
- Reaching For Rainbows in Picton is looking for volunteers. It’s a registered charity that offers free programs for girls in Prince Edward County. If you can spare a few hours each week to engage in activities with the young participants, contact the team. Reaching For Rainbows is looking for people would are interested in working with students from Grade 1-8, assisting them with the creative arts, working in the Kitchen, and during physical activities.
- Central Hastings Support Network is looking for drivers. Clients need a lift to appointment, which include Kingston or Toronto. Drivers use their own vehicles and receive reimbursement through a predetermined fee.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
