Fall is a busy time of year in the Quinte region, with key fundraisers and community programs looking for support. If you have some time to spare, or are looking to test or expand your skill set, get your volunteer hours done.. then Volunteer Information Quinte has a place for you.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
- The Prince Edward Learning Centre is looking for Volunteer Tutors. You must be 19 years of age and older for this role. Shifts are one to two hours Monday to Thursday. Volunteers receive on-site training.
- People are needed to help at the Eastern Canada Hockey Cup Tournament. The event at the Trenton arena will take place on November 13th to 15th. Volunteers are needed to help VIQ with ticket sales, the merchandise table, to be team and VIP hosts, as well as ushers.
- The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is getting ready for their annual Festival of Trees Event. The event will be held November 25th to 27th. Folks are needed to help sell tickets, decorate, and pitch in with the bake sale. Depending on the task you choose times vary… but generally are 4-hour shifts. The Festival of Trees event will be held at Isaiah Tubbs Resort.
- YMCA Belleville Branch is seeking volunteers to assist with their Spooktacular Event on Saturday October 27, 2023 from 6pm to 8:30pm. Duties include one or more of the following, decorating the venue, monitoring the bake sale table, assisting with different activities, greeting and welcoming guests at the door. Training is provided.
- Abigail’s is seeking an enthusiastic volunteer to work in the babies and beyond program once a week on Thursday afternoons. Duties will include: Participating in all care routines, caring for child care equipment, set-up and take down activity area returning items to their storage place, maintaining an organized activity area, assist with planned activities.
- The Museums of Prince Edward County have some unique volunteer opportunities at five of its locations in the county: Front-desk receptions and hosts are needed at some of the museums. Several volunteers will get a chance to dress in period costume and deliver programming. The museums in need of volunteers are: Macaulay House, the Ameliasburgh Heritage Village, Wellington Heritage Museum, Mariners Park Museum, and the Rose House Museum.
- The National Air Force Museum of Canada is looking for a variety of volunteers. The museum in Trenton needs folks to help run the gift shop, greet guests, and monitor visitor areas.
- Quinte Immigration Services is looking for volunteers with its Ukraine Assistance Group. They need people who speak fluent Ukrainian, Polish, and/or Russian to translate and assist newcomers to our region.
- Reaching For Rainbows in Picton is looking for volunteers. It’s a registered charity that offers no-cost programs for girls in Prince Edward County. If you can spare a few hours each week to engage in activities with the young participants, contact Reaching For Rainbows on its website.
- VON Meals on Wheels requires volunteer drivers and passengers who will deliver meals to clients. Volunteer a minimum of once a week for an hour on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday between 11 a.m. and noon. Drivers are also required for their Transportation program both local and long-distance routes.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
