Belleville Police Service has released the following statement this morning, following an incident earlier today.
Major traffic disruption
“An incident involving a tractor-trailer has led to a major traffic disruption on Wallbridge- Loyalist road at Highway 401 this morning.
Shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday Belleville Police and other emergency personnel were dispatched to an area of Wallbridge-Loyalist Road after a tractor-trailer leaving a parking lot on the south side of Highway 401 – just north of Bell Boulevard – caught several bundles of telecommunication wires mounted on telephone poles.
The force of the impact heavily damaged multiple poles and wires, which were strewn across the highway.
Damage is considered significant and maintenance crews on scene determined no live hydro wires were involved in the incident, only telecommunication lines.
Subsequently, hydro has not been affected by this incident.
Access to Highway 401 at Wallbridge-Loyalist Road has been shut down.
As well, Wallbridge-Loyalist Road is blocked by Belleville police from the intersection of Bell Boulevard to the intersection of Bellevue Drive on the north side of Highway 401.
This closure is expected to last for a large part of the day so motorists are advised to make alternative arrangements for travel.
There was no one injured in the incident and police are continuing an investigation. No charges have been laid at this time.”
