The number of people in local hospitals due to COVID-19 has doubled since before the holidays.
Hastings Prince Edward Public Health has released their latest COVID-19 report this morning, their second since the holiday break.
Staff say that they have identified 89 new high-risk infections in the last week. There are 72 active high-risk infections between the two counties today.
The local health unit is reporting one new-virus related death, bringing the death toll to 141 local residents since the start of the pandemic.
Quinte Health continues to deal with an influx in patients battling the virus. Quinte Health is looking after 39 local residents due to COVID-19 this week, averaging six in the ICU.
The largest influx of patients reported since October 2022.
The health unit continues to keep an eye on five outbreaks in high-risk settings across the region. The latest declared yesterday, is impacting Richmond Retirement Home in Belleville. The other outbreaks are at Belmont Long Term Care Home, Belleville General Hospital Quinte 5 Floor, Quinte Gardens Retirement Home, and Quinte Health Care’s Transitional Unit.
The health unit says that only 18% of local residence have received a COVID-19 vaccine in the last six months.
