Several community organizations continue to look for volunteers as we count the days to spring.
If you are new to the area, looking to gain some new skills, or get your high school volunteer hours done, then Volunteer Information Quinte can find the perfect place for you.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*The Grace Inn Shelter is looking for people who can help out Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are needed to clean beds, sweep, mop and sort donations.
*The Loyola School is looking for people who can help others learn English. Volunteers are needed during class times, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. You must commit to at least one morning a week. Volunteers work with the ESL instructor.
*If you enjoy cooking, then Catharine’s Kitchen in Quinte West could use us. They are looking for people from Monday to Wednesday, from 8:40 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Volunteers serve food and help with cleaning. On-call shifts are also available.
*The Alzheimer’s Society is looking for volunteers to help with their In-Home Activation Program. People are needed to deliver programming to others suffering dementia. Training and support is provided. The program runs for 12 weeks.
*Links to Learning is looking for people to join their one-to-one reading program. High schools students are welcome to apply to help with the program that runs Monday and Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
*Community Care Central Hastings is looking for drivers to deliver meals to seniors. Drivers must use their own vehicles. Meals are delivered weekdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The time commitment can be weekly, bi weekly or monthly.
*Habitat For Humanity ReStore in Belleville is looking for people who can assist with customer service, donations, and create floor displays.
*The Regent Theatre in downtown Picton, is a great place to get your volunteer hours if you are a high school student. They are looking for some people to do some odd jobs.
*Prince Edward Learning Centre needs folks to help out in the Good Food Market. Duties include setting up the weekly market, organizing produce and cleaning up. Other positions required include Covid screeners, personal shoppers, and delivery drivers.
*Community Care Prince Edward County Association is looking for volunteer drivers who can take clients out to appointments and out for essential shopping trips. Drivers remain with the clients in most cases for the trips. Clients pay drivers directly.
*The Canadian Cancer Society needs drivers in Madoc, Tweed and Marmora. Volunteers pick up clients from their homes and drive them to and from cancer-related treatment, supportive care and follow up appointments.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
