
Spring is just around the corner, and for many high-school students, that means that time is ticking to get their volunteer hours done.
If you find yourself in that spot, or with some free time to spare. Then Volunteer Information Quinte can find the right place for you.
Here is the VIQ Update this week:
*Volunteers are needed to assist Community Living Belleville. Duties include supporting a variety of clients with activities. You can be a swimming assistant, hockey buddy, or card partner. Community Living tries to match up volunteers and clients who have the same interests.
*The team with Community Living Alternatives, is looking for some community-minded people. They are looking for a group of volunteers who can be a part of the Board of Directors. The opportunity is open to anyone living in Quinte West, Madoc, Marmora, Tweed, and Deseronto. Meetings are once a month on Tuesdays, except for the summer. The meeting time is between 5 to 7 p.m.
*If you don’t mind tax season, and are good with math – then the Gateway Community Health Centre is the place for you. The team is looking for people in Tweed who can help complete Income Tax and Benefit returns for clients. Training is provided by Revenue Canada. The schedule is flexible and computers are provided.
*Children’s Mental Health Services, known as CMHS, is looking for energetic and engaged volunteers to serve on the Board of Directors. The non-profit agency provides services for those living in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. The team is looking for people who have experience and knowledge in the sector. Meetings are held once a month from 5 to 7 p.m.
*The O’Hara Mill Homestead and Conservation Area in Madoc, is looking for people who can help out with events. The team needs people who can dress up in period costumes, set up events, and clean up after. Musical volunteers, and wizards in the kitchen, or at the craft table are always welcome.
*St Leonard’s Community Support Prevention and Residential Services in Trenton, is looking for board members. Interested volunteers, must complete an application form and go through the interview process. Meetings are held monthly.
*Reaching For Rainbows in Picton is looking for volunteers. It’s a registered charity that offers no-cost programs for girls in Prince Edward County. If you can spare a few hours each week to engage in activities with the young participants, contact Reaching For Rainbows on its website.
*The Alternatives for Women Team is looking for community members to assist with maintaining programming and buildings. Tasks include childcare, providing transportation within Prince Edward County, and sorting and packing donations.
Links to Learning is seeking volunteers for their tutoring programs. Volunteers assist children with reading following a set curriculum. Tutoring takes place Monday and Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Training is provided on-site, and high school students are welcome.
*The Regent Theatre in downtown Picton, is a great place to get your volunteer hours if you are a high school student. They are looking for people to do some odd jobs.
*Canadian Mental Health Addictions and Mental Health Services, needs Board members. People who have a strong background in finance, legal, and human resources are encouraged to apply. Meetings are held monthly. Orientation and training to the agency provided.
*Big Brother Big Sisters is seeking volunteers to assist with their School Mentoring Program. The mentor meets a young person at their school for 1 hour each week on the same day at the same time. Matched activities are intended to be fun. This program runs for 1 school year that follows the school calendar including breaks and PA days. Orientation and training provided.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
