Spring is just around the corner, and for many high-school students, that means that time is ticking to get their volunteer hours done.

Here is the VIQ Update this week:
*Community Care agencies in South Hastings, Prince Edward County and Central Hastings are currently seeking volunteers to support meals on wheels programs. Volunteers are urgently needed to deliver meals to seniors in their home’s weekdays between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Volunteer follow a set route, providing hot meals to seniors ensuring they have access to nutritious meals. This volunteer position is flexible.
*Gateway Community Health Centre is seeking volunteers the second Tuesday each month for the Good Box Distribution, in the Tweed location. Duties include organizing and loading the Food Box into customers cars.
*The John Howard Society is looking for people to help out at their charity café located at the Belleville courthouse. Volunteers work as a barista in the café. Shifts are available in both the morning and afternoons. All funds raised support youth employment programming.
*Central Hastings Support Network is seeking volunteers to assist with packing and distribution of food boxes at Helping Hands Food Bank in Madoc. Volunteer position can be a regular weekly commitment, bi-weekly or call-in (after a period of training. Shifts available include: Monday 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Tuesday 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Thursday 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
*Abigail’s is seeking an enthusiastic volunteer to work in the babies and beyond program once a week on Thursday afternoons. Duties will include: Participating in all care routines, Caring for child care equipment, Set-up and take down activity area returning items to their storage place, Maintaining an organized activity area, Assist with planned activities
*Quinte West Youth Centre is seeking volunteers to supervise and mentor youth between the ages of 10 and 18. Volunteers lead activities and games during the Youth Centre’s operations creating and inspiring interest in young people and encouraging their involvement. Programs consist of cooking, Arts and Crafts, Recreational Games, Sports And Homework Help.
*The Community Development Council of Quinte is seeking volunteers as to assist monthly as a Good Food Box Driver and Driver Assistant. As the Volunteer Driver you will be responsible for: Pickup and delivery of the Good Food Box; helping to load and unload the boxes for delivery; delivering boxes to specified destinations in Hastings County, the assistant supports the driver in loading and unloading of food boxes.
*The Naval Marine Archive in Picton, is seeking volunteers to assist with preparations for the Canadian Society of Marine Artists annual exhibition, that opens the first Saturday in May and runs for four weeks. Activities include preparation of the catalogue, communication with the artists, framing, exhibition layout and hanging. During the show volunteers will provide communication with the public and the artists.
*Community Living Belleville is seeking community volunteers. Duties include interacting with people supported through the agency by assisting them on a one to one basis to enhance social interaction. Volunteers enable people to participate in the life of the community. Activities could include casual friendly visits, card partner, hockey buddy and swimming assistant. This commitment is flexible volunteers are matched based on common interests.
*Community Learning Alternatives is currently seeking community-minded volunteers for their Board of Directors. Candidates with an interest and/or experience in governance, finance, communications, and human resources are required. Individuals residing in Quinte West, Madoc, Marmora, Tweed and Deseronto are encouraged to apply. Meetings are held the fourth Tuesday of each month from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., summer months excluded.
