The local region will be one of the best places in North America to watch the total solar eclipse on Monday.
This week on In Touch With Quinte, local resident Scott Granville joined us to talk about streaming the eclipse on YouTube. The Totality On The Bay broadcast will start at 1:30 p.m. Granville and his friends will be set up at Meyers Pier in Belleville with a TV truck. They’ll also have the NASA feed available.
They are still looking for sponsors. Businesses who are interested in supporting this project can contact Scott by emailing scottjgranville@gmail.com or at 647-221-7840.
The eclipse will start just after 2 p.m. and be done around 4:30 p.m. We’ll be in total darkness in Belleville at 3:21 p.m. It will last for 2 minutes and four seconds.
Visit backyard astronomer Gary Boyle’s website to learn more about the path of totality.
Police agencies continue to encourage people in the Bay of Quinte region to gas up their vehicles and run errands well before the event, as we brace for lots of visitors on Monday. Loyalist College in Belleville will continue to run classes on Monday, while elementary and high school students have the day off. Students and staff at Loyalist College can attend a lecture at Alumni Hall from noon to 2 p.m. about the science behind the eclipse. Outside on campus during the event, there will be beverages, snacks, and music. The College will be handing out eclipse glasses on campus Monday.
Listen to In Touch With Quinte every Friday at 10:30 a.m. and Sunday at 7 a.m.
