The Trenton Military Family Resource Centre has released the following statement this week about the Invisible Ribbon Gala.
Tickets still available for Invisible Ribbon Gala
Preparations are well underway for the Trenton Military Family Resource Centre’s (MFRC) 17th annual Invisible Ribbon Gala on May 11, 2024. While we look to commemorate the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Centennial, we are most humbled to remember and honour our military families – the backbone of the aviation community. A limited number of tickets are still available for purchase.
This year, we welcome ‘the Honorary Five’ as our title sponsors. This formidable group of individuals are respected leaders both on the Base and within the community. Amongst our ranks will be 8 Wing Trenton’s Honorary Colonel, Julie Lange, joined by Honorary Colonels Mark Phillips, Lorraine O’Quinn, Aleesha Camp and Chandy (Chandra) Davis. When they’re not busy overseeing their respective businesses or pursuing philanthropic endeavors, they can be found hard at work within the gates of 8 Wing/CFB Trenton. As honorary colonels, the bulk of their work is rooted in helping nurture the relationship between the military and civilian communities. “We’re so fortunate to have a group like the Honorary Five supporting our military families,” said Trenton MFRC Executive Director Tamara Kleinschmidt. “It’s the support of these kinds of community leaders that make what we do here at the MFRC possible. Our military families are often tasked with rallying in the face of the unexpected. While they may call upon us in these times of uncertainty, we too must extend our hand for support and are always met with the warm embrace of the community.”
In less than three weeks, the National Air Force Museum of Canada will undergo a transformation as guests join in celebrating 100 years of RCAF Families. They will walk down memory lane and learn more about the RCAF’s biggest supporters – and their stories. Among these stories will be that of a local family and their ties to CFB Trenton. While they are currently known as the owners of Trenton Cold Storage, the Eben James family will happily share the story of the late Senator William Alexander Fraser. Not only was he a well-known politician, and former mayor of Quinte West, he is credited with bringing the Base to the area in the 1930s. “It’s stories like that of the James family that are integral to commemorating the RCAF’s rich history in our community,” said Kleinschmidt. “It’s also a testament to the support the Quinte Region has and continues to have for military families to this day.”
The Invisible Ribbon Gala will once again feature a nostalgic, three-course culinary experience, silent and live auctions, raffles and more. All proceeds will go towards supporting military families within the Bay of Quinte region.
As for our campaign goal, we will be raising funds for the unique challenges that we often refer to as ‘the unexpected.’ This has previously included funding for: emergency housing for families in distress, mental health support, respite care for children with exceptionalities, virtual access to medical practitioners and other emergent situations. In order to accomplish these goals, the Trenton MFRC must fundraise as we continue to strive for long-term, sustainable and responsive solutions to meet the needs of our community. We could not do this without your support and we look forward to showing our military families that the Bay of Quinte region is more than just Canada’s home of air mobility – it’s also the place we call home.
