The OPP have released the following statement this week.
Members of the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) will be launching a new tool to assist neighbourhood watch groups.
Neighbourhood Protect is a free web-based communication tool to assist in protecting your property and neighbourhood. The community is encouraged to sign up.
Unlike some social media groups that are closed and limit information sharing among neighbourhoods and police, Neighbourhood Protect connects multiple neighbourhood watches through one central database.
Neighbourhood Protect requires minimal effort from members; simply look out for each other`s property and report possible crimes. This system enhances among residents and those with cameras can help gather video evidence of perpetrators and suspicious vehicles.
Additionally, it aids investigations by notifying neighbours with cameras when a crime occurs, prompting them to check their video footage for potential perpetrators or suspicious vehicles.
It is free tool to protect your property and neighbourhood. All posts on the website are anonymous. Only the police can see your contact information if they need to do some follow-up.
Neighbourhood Protect is recognized by many organizations as a leader in neighbourhood watch. Learn more and sign up at neighbourhoodprotect.ca
