Local volunteers in the Bay of Quinte region are the definition of what makes the holiday season so special.
Selfishly giving – often without fanfare or accolades.
If you are out and about this holiday season, and accessing a community service, please stop and thank a volunteer.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week.
*The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to stand near the holiday kettles at local businesses throughout Belleville and Prince Edward County. Shifts are 2 hours at a time. You can volunteer solo, or in pairs and groups.
*If you thrive on a good game on Bingo, then you can head to the Lion’s Hall in Belleville to volunteer. Continuing On In Education is looking for people to run their bingo games once a month on a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. The time commitment is 5:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. on bingo nights. Duties include calling back winning numbers and customer support. Funds raised support local programming.
*St Leonard’s organization has offices in Trenton and Belleville. Their community and housing team is looking for board members. In this volunteer role, you would be involved as a board member, making decisions about the future of services and projects. Those with a background in finance, government, HR and communication are particularly needed. In order to be a board member, you must go through a formal application process as well as training. Meetings are held once a month.
*Bancroft Community Transit is looking for volunteer drivers in the Quinte region, to take clients to and from local and regional medical appointments, and out for essential shopping. Mileage is reimbursed.
*The Community Development Council of Quinte, known as CDC Quinte, is looking for people to support the Good Food Box program. Volunteers are needed to help pack the boxes, head out for deliveries and complete client sheets. There is some heavy lifting involved. Training is provided.
*The Prince Edward Community Care for Seniors Association is looking for drivers to provide similar assistance to clients. Reimbursement is provided.
*The Central Hastings Support Network is looking for Belleville, who can drive clients to appointments locally and as far as Kingston and Toronto. Drivers can choose their trips., but they must have their own vehicle. Reimbursement is provided.
*Driving people and meals around is still top of mind for Community Care South Hastings. The team is looking for people to drive clients to and from medical appointments. The trips can be in Belleville, Trenton and Picton, or as far as Kingston, Ottawa and Toronto on occassion. Community Care South Hastings also needs people to chip in for the Meals on Wheels program. People are needed to volunteer in Madoc, Marmora, Stirling, and Tweed. Meals are delivered from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
*The VON Meals on Wheels program is in need of drivers. Volunteers can pitch in a minimum of once a week for an hour on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday. People are needed from 11 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are also required for the Transportation program.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
