As the we inch closer to spring, many of us in the Quinte region are anxious to get out and meeting some new people, gain some skills, and celebrate the season.
Volunteer Information Quinte is the organization that connects people up with volunteer opportunities.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week.
*Work at a hospital is never done, and volunteers across the region provide essential support. Volunteers are needed at Trenton Memorial Hospital and Belleville General Hospital. Volunteers assist patients and staff with directions, meal delivery, at the main desk, and making sure supplies continue to be well stocked. People are needed to help in the ER, mammography clinics, Recreation Therapy clinics, and day surgery areas. Orientation and training is provided.
*Catherine’s Kitchen in Trenton needs people to help prepare food, serve and clean-up. Shifts are from 8:45 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. They also have some on-call positions. The program runs from Monday to Thursday.
*Community Care Prince Edward County Association is looking for volunteer drivers. Drivers provide clients with door-to-door service to and from medical appointments and out for other essential shopping. Clients are independently mobile. Orientation and ongoing support is provided by a staff member.
*Bridge Street United Church in downtown Belleville is looking for people to support their lunch program. The team prepares lunches for the most vulnerable in our community, on Saturdays and Sundays. One person is needed on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., and two more volunteers are desperately needed again on Sundays from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
*Central Hastings Support Network is currently seeking volunteers to drive clients to and from appointments. Locations can be both local or long distance including Kingston or Toronto. Drivers use their own vehicles and receive reimbursement through a predetermined fee.
*Habitat For Humanity ReStore in Belleville is seeking volunteers to provide assistance with preparing merchandise for sale, creating floor displays, customer service, housekeeping duties, and preparing some items for scrap recycling or disposal.
*The Regent Theatre in downtown Picton is looking for people to do odd jobs, scan tickets and help people to their seats on event nights.
*VON Hastings, Northumberland, Prince Edward is seeking volunteer visitors to support and interact with isolated individuals through regular visits to client’s homes. Orientation and training provided.
*Community Care South Hastings is currently seeking volunteers for their driving program. Volunteers provide door to door transportation to individuals both local and long distance this may include stops for necessities. Mileage is reimbursed. They are also seeking volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels to seniors Monday through Friday 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., choose once a week, biweekly or monthly. Must own your own vehicle.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
