It may not feel like spring outside, but many community groups are forging ahead with programs, campaigns, and fundraisers. As always the more support the merrier. If you are still searching for your high school volunteer hours, newly retired, or just looking to get off the couch…then Volunteer Information Quinte can find the right volunteer opportunity for you.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week.
*Volunteer drivers are needed to help out Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors. Volunteers are required to drive clients to and from medical appointments. Trips can be local or to Kingston. Volunteers can pick their schedule and they receive a mileage reimbursement of .50 cents per kilometer.
*The Quinte Museum of Natural History in Trenton is looking for people to help out. The team needs people to support visitors at the museum, help out with programs, workshops, and fundraising. Orientation and training is provided.
*Saturday, April 12th is World Alzheimer’s Day. As more and more people are touched by this disease, the demand on programs continues to rise. The Alzheimer’s Society of Hastings-Prince Edward has an In-Home Activation program that is across the region. Volunteers are matched with clients and visit them in their homes for different activities geared towards dementia care. The program runs for 12 weeks. The time commitment can be as little as one weekly visit, which is around an hour and a half.
*The Quinte Validity & Social Support organization is a non-profit agency that serves adults with developmental disabilities through day programs. They are looking for individuals with a wide range of skills to join their board as they begin a new phase with the agency. Applications are being accepted for review. Prospective applicants will be invited to attend a board meeting for an interview.
*Volunteer drivers are required to support the Community Development Council of Quinte, known as CDC Quinte. The team delivers Good Food Boxes to locations in Hastings County. The time commitment for drivers is the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. You can also choose to fill-in if regular drivers are not available on certain days. Volunteers must be able to life 50 pounds.
*The Highland Shores Children’s Aid is seeking volunteer drivers in the areas of Belleville and/or West of Belleville through to Cobourg or Port Hope. Volunteers assist staff and foster parents with the safe transportation of the children and adults served by the agency. The time commitment varies Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend requests. Mileage reimbursement is provided.
*Links to Learning is looking for volunteers to assist children with reading by following a set curriculum, on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Volunteers should be able to commit to a once weekly session with a child for a period of 6 months minimum. High School students are welcome.
*Community Living Quinte West could use your support. They are looking for volunteers to help run bi-weekly bingos. They also need people for home visits, help organize events, and support clients on outings. Orientation and training provided.
*The Alternative’s for Women team is looking for community members to assist with maintaining programs and buildings. Tasks include childcare, providing transportation within PEC, sorting and packaging donations for clients, and assisting with events.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
