Belleville Police have released the following statement as apart of their morning media briefing.
On Thursday, May 9, 2025, at approximately 3:15 p.m., a member of the Belleville Police Service responded to a report of three young males acting suspiciously behind a convenience store in the city’s west hill area.
Upon arrival, an officer located the individuals and began questioning them regarding their activities. During the interaction, one of the males was observed to have an object concealed in the front of his pants, underneath his sweater. When the officer conducted a pat-down for officer safety, he felt a hard object consistent with the shape of a handgun. The officers grabbed the weapon, which was confirmed to be a loaded 9mm pistol.
At that time, all three males fled the scene on foot in different directions. An extensive search of the surrounding area was conducted with the assistance of additional officers; however, the suspects were not located.
The Belleville Police Service is actively investigating this incident and is working to identify the individuals involved. Officers are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby cameras and throughout the city as part of the investigation.
