
Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and stay up to date with what is happening with events and fundraisers.
The team that connect volunteers with local organizations is Volunteer Information Quinte.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*The Homestead Antique, Collectables, and Artisan Show will take place in Trenton on Saturday, September 27th and Sunday, September 28th. Volunteers are needed on Friday, September 26 to help set up, and provide directions and gate support at event days. Vendors spots are still available.
*YMCA Belleville will host their Halloween Spooktacular event on Saturday, October 25th. The event will run at the YMCA in Belleville from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. High school students are welcome to apply for this volunteer opportunity. Helpers are needed to set up and monitor the craft and games tables. Actors are needed for the haunted house!
*Food For Learning is looking for support at a variety of schools across Hastings and Prince Edward counties. Volunteers help prepare and serve snacks and meals to students at school. The program runs from September to June.
*Scouts Canada – Bay of Quinte Group is looking for adult volunteers. The team needs folks to step up to help the Beaver, Cub, Venture, and Troops. You would be working with youth from 5 to 17 years old.
*If cooking is your passion, then Catherine’s Kitchen could use your expertise in Trenton. Volunteers are needed Monday to Thursday from 8:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Duties include preparing, serving food and clean-up. On-call positions are available.
*Links to Learning is currently seeking volunteers to assist with their one-to-one reading program. This program runs Monday and Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. High school looking for volunteer hours are welcome to apply.
*Abbeyfield House Society of PEC is seeking volunteers to join their Board of Directors. Meetings are held over Zoom, on the third Thursday of each month. Meetings run from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. You must commit for at least one year.
*Canadian Blood Services is seeking volunteers to assist at their mobile clinics. Duties include supporting donors before and after their donations. All volunteers will support providing refreshments to donors and ensuring safety post donation. Orientation and training provided.
*The Deseronto Library is seeking volunteers as Friends of the Library. People help with promoting library services and assisting with activities. Flexible hours are offered.
*Comfortable with a tool box and making small home repairs? Loyalist Humane Society needs you. The team is looking for volunteers to help perform general maintenance and address issues with heating, paint, insulation, and floors. Other volunteer opportunities include cleaning, topping up food, and generally supporting the well-being of animals.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
