
There are lots of volunteer opportunities this time of year.
Volunteer Information Quinte is the organization that connects people up with organizations in need of support. Especially high school students in need of volunteer hours.
Here is the VIQ update for this week.
*Girl Guides of Canada are looking for volunteers to help girls experience fun adventures in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment. Learn the skills that will help them confidently navigate their world, and discover they can achieve more than they ever imagined.
*Indigenous Interprofessional Primary Care Team is seeking board members with a diverse set of skills and experiences. Responsibilities of members include: a 2-year commitment, participating in committee work, attending monthly board meetings and the AGM, etc. Previous board experience is helpful but not required.
*Community Care for Central Hastings needs volunteers to provide assistance with small chores around the house such as installing safety rails, minor home repairs, yard work. This service is not intended to involve major jobs or be in competition with commercial trades people.
*Food For Learning – Learning Foundation is looking for volunteers for their Breakfast Program in schools. Volunteers assist with preparing and serving breakfast/snacks, assist with food prep, setup, and cleanup, and practice safe food handling. The program operates from Monday to Friday during the school year across elementary and high school programs in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. Volunteer everyday or once a week – whatever best suits your schedule.
*Community Care North Hastings is looking for volunteers for their telephone reassurance program. A regular telephone call provides friendship and reassurance to persons who are housebound or isolated. Calls are made Monday through Friday between 7am and 10am.
*People are urgently needed to meet the demand at the Stirling Musical Instrument Lending Library. The Stirling M.I.L.L is a not-for-profit program that lends musical instruments for free to people in the Quinte region. Volunteers are needed at the Stirling MILL home base at the Stirling-Rawdon Public Library to help maintain a wide-variety of instruments including guitars, amps and horns.
*Continuing On In Education is looking for bingo volunteers in Belleville. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday volunteers are needed for evening bingos from 5:45-9:30pm.
*Abbeyfield House Society of Prince Edward County is seeking Directors of Marketing and Communications to join its Board. In this role, Directors will develop and maintain marketing and communications materials for Abbeyfield PEC, including website content, brochures, and presentations. They will work closely with the President as a primary spokesperson, as well as with other Board members as needed, to raise awareness and support the promotion of fundraising events. Responsibilities also include preparing and distributing communications, developing communications plans, and maintaining related records.
*The Richmond Retirement Residence in Belleville is looking for volunteers to run a craft program a few times a month. You have complete creative freedom and can propose all ideas to the Recreation Manager and will be given a budget to buy supplies with. It’s a great time to socialize with seniors and engage. Police record checks are required, but covered by the Residence.
*North Hastings Community Cupboard is looking for volunteers to assist at the food bank in Bancroft. This position entails stocking shelves before opening, interacting with clients, collecting their order and recording data. After closing, there is stocking and cleaning, for an additional hour. Opening hours are currently Tuesdays and Fridays 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. and Thursdays 4-7 p.m. Regular weekly shift is preferred, but can accommodate a flexible schedule.
*Mission Thrift Store Belleville is seeking volunteers to merchandise and sort clothing in the store. Sort and hang clothing, and earn great retail experience. Weekday and weekend shifts are available.
*The Alzheimer Society of Hastings-Prince Edward are looking for volunteers to commit to as little as one visit (1.5 hours) per week with one client for 12 weeks at a time. Volunteers work in a client’s home doing recreation activities with them for 1.5 hours at a time. Some examples of activities would be puzzles, word games, baking, walking, games, and social visits.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
