Tuesday, April 28th – is the Day of Mourning across the country.
The day is dedicated to remembering people who have lost their lives or have become ill or injured while on the job.
This year, Labour Councils are highlighting mental health in the workplace.
The Northumberland Labour Council will host a ceremony on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m. at the Lucas Point Park in Cobourg.
The Quinte Labour Council has released the following statistics in their statement this week.
Nearly half of working Canadians say their job is the most stressful part of their daily lives. 70% of workers are concerned about the psychological health and safety of their workplace. In 2023 alone, more than 8,500 workplace mental health injury claims were accepted by compensation boards, with health care, education, public services, and the trades among the hardest-hit sectors. The actual number of workers is likely far higher.
