Belleville Police have charged a local man with arson, following an investigation into a fire in the city’s west-end this week.
Emergency crews were called to a fire on Monday around 8:20 p.m., in the area of Moira Street West and Wallbridge-Crescent.
Firefighters arrived to find a carport/garage, and two-vehicles on fire.
At the time, the fire investigation was turned over to police.
Belleville Police have revealed that investigators were looking into a report about a man acting erratically in the area. He was reportedly uttering threats. Police claim that he set a vehicle on fire under the carport. This has not been proven in court. Police add that the fire then spread to the residence, and further damaged to a home next door. No injuries were reported.
Police add that they located the 38-year-old suspect of no fixed address. The Belleville man is charged with two-counts of arson-disregard for human life, three-counts of arson-damage to property, along with mischief endangering life, uttering threats, and breach of recognizance.
He was held for a bail hearing as Belleville Police are looking for those with information to come forward.
