Local couple donating $1 million to BGH

Local residents Wayne and Wendy Sheppard have announced a $1 million dollar investment to the Belleville General Hospital.

The Belleville General Hospital Foundation says that the money will support ongoing priority equipment needs.

The announcement follows the end of Wayne Sheppard’s term as the Chair of the Hospital Foundation’s Board of Directors.

The money will first be used to help expand the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at BGH, which will help support premature babies, and newborns in need of specialized care close to home.

Last year, just over 300 babies required NICU care, and 38 newborns were transferred out of the area for specialized treatment.
