Belleville Police have charged a local man in connection to a claim that an assault had taken place.
Police were patrolling the east-end of the city on Wednesday, when they received the report.
The interaction between a man and woman took place earlier that day.
Police were told that a man had walked away after taking a woman’s purse. The man punched the woman when she attempted to get the purse back.
Officers located the 41-year-old suspect. The man is charged with spousal assault and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
He was held for a bail hearing.
